MoviEffects(tm) provides a complete solution for producing QuickTime(tm) movies. It lets you capture movie clips, and then mosaic them, posterize them, turn them into negatives, multi-image them, reverse them, strobe them, slow them down, speed them up, flip them, rotate them and add a variety of film and aging effects, including conversion to black and white. It lets you take two clips and dissolve, wipe or perform digital effects transitions between them. It lets you superimpose one movie over another using luminance, chrominance or alpha channel data. Finally, it lets you compile a series of clips (up to 600) into a final output movie.
New capabilities as of version 1.4 include:
MoviEffects supports all standard QuickTime frame rates and bit depths from 32 bits ("Millions of Colors+") to 8 bits, plus all types of compression.
The sections that follow provide a brief description of MoviEffects' capabilities.
MoviEffects can capture video and audio to QuickTime movies with appropriate video and audio capture hardware.
Roll / Crawl
MoviEffects can take a series of numbered PICT files and convert them to a movie that rolls (moves from bottom to top) or crawls (moves from right to left or left to right) the original PICTs.
This function is designed to let you convert static PICTs into a credit roll or caption scroll. It can also be used to create a slide show of moving images.
Film Effects
MoviEffects' Film Effects functions let you make video images look like they were shot on film. You can add film grain, dust and dirt, scratches and jitter, and reduce the effective frame rate for a "jerky" effect. You can also convert a movie to black and white.
The Mosaic function processes a background movie into a new movie with the image converted with a mosaic effect of settable size. Inside each "tile" of the mosaic, the color and brightness of the original image is averaged in the output movie.
This function lets you reduce the number of colors in a movie, creating a poster or "solarized" effect.
This function inverts the colors in color movies or the grayscale values in monochrome movies, creating a negative output movie.
This function lets you convert a background input movie into a movie with the original image reduced and displayed either four, nine or sixteen times.
This function creates a new movie with the image flipped horizontally.
This function creates a new movie with the image flipped vertically.
This function creates a new movie with the image flipped horizontally and vertically.
This function creates a new movie with that runs in reverse of the original. As opposed to simply running a movie backwards, this function creates a backwards version of the original background movie.
This function creates a new movie with frames repeated to effectively reduce the frame rate. You can select whether frames are repeated one, two , three, four, five or ten times.
This function creates a new movie with that runs in slow motion as compared to the original. You can select speeds of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20 or 1/30 original speed.
This function creates a new movie with that runs in fast motion as compared to the original. You can select speeds of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x or 30x original speed.
The Dissolve function performs a dissolve from the background movie to the foreground movie at the rate in frames that you select in the dissolve dialog.
MoviEffects can create a wipe between movies according to 16 different wipe patterns and 16 reversed patterns.
MoviEffects can create a "digital video effect" transition between movies according to 11 different effects patterns and 11 reversed patterns.
With wipes and DVE effects, MoviEffects has the ability to perform a split-screen or partial effect. You can set starting and ending percentages for either type of effect. Using the same value (such as 50%) for both starting and ending percentages creates a static split screen.
The Luma Key function lets you composite a foreground movie over a background movie according to luminance values in the foreground movie.
The Chroma Key function lets you composite a foreground movie over a background movie according to color values in the foreground movie.
The Alpha Key function lets you composite a foreground movie with an alpha channel over a background movie.
MoviEffects is designed to work on movie clips - sections of movies. The Movie Assembler window lets you compile a series of clips into a single movie. Up to 600 clips can be imported into the Movie Assembler window and arranged in any order simply by clicking and dragging them.
Virtually all of MoviEffects' functions can be applied as batch processes, with up to 500 files processed at a time.
MoviEffects requires System 8.1 or later and QuickTime 3 or later. It also requires at least 8 MB of available memory.
MoviEffects will also run in Classic mode under OS X. Please note that you must start Classic first, and then launch MoviEffects. Otherwise, a registered copy of MoviEffects will not be able to find its preferences file, and will revert to demo mode when lauched.

This is version 1.4e of MoviEffects. The MoviEffects manual is available in the form of a stand-alone (DocMaker) appplication.
If you are a registered MoviEffects owner, downloading MoviEffects will automatically update you to the current version.
If you're not a registered owner, MoviEffects will run in demo mode, printing the words "MoviEffects Demo" over the output files. It is otherwise fully functional. This lets you try out MoviEffect before you commit to a purchase.
To register MoviEffects, you can unlock your copy by following the instructions in the Registration window, available from the Edit menu. Registration is $29.95, payable by check or Visa, MasterCard or American Express. You can place your order via our secure order page.
