The McQ Device Control Plug-In for the Media 100 lets you control broadcast and professional video recorders and players from within the Media 100 software. It can be used during video capture, batch capture and record/edit operations.

In addition to the standard Record, Assemble and Insert functions provided by the Media 100's interface with the plug-in, the McQ M-100 Plug-In adds the ability to preview insert edits and play tapes in reverse normal speed (for older software versions). For later software versions, it also offers an option that will prompt you to change reel names when a new tape is inserted when in digitize mode, and provides a keyboard tape eject function.

It also supports audio channels 3 & 4 with appropriate video recorders.

Video Recorders

The McQ M-100 Device Control Plug-In works with broadcast and professional video recorders and players that can be controlled via an RS-422 remote port. This includes most recent-model video tape recorders, including Betacam, D1, D2, D3, MII, Sony 1-inch, 3/4-inch (BVU series and VO-9850), and high-end S-VHS recorders. Its performance meets or exceeds that of competing machine control plug-ins supplied by other vendors, or by Media 100.

The basic criteria with regard to video machines are that the recorder must have an RS-422 remote control port, and a built-in SMPTE time code reader. Also, the Mac must have a true RS-422 port; USB-to-serial adapters won’t work. With G3 and G4 machines, we recommend the “Stealth Port”-type modem replacement.

The McQ M-100 Device Control Plug-In does not work with consumer video cassette recorders or camcorders via the Control-L or Control-S protocols, nor does it work with Sony Visca recorders. These recorders are not frame-accurate editors, and do not support SMPTE time code.

Product Pricing

The McQ M-100 Machine Control Plug-In is priced at $79.95. A ten-foot serial cable to connect from the Mac's modem port to the RS-422 port on video recorders is available for $20.00. (The McQ Machine Control Plug-In will work with your existing RS- 422 cable.)
